Can a US citizen move to Israel?

Country Asia Updated July 2026

Yes, US citizens can move to Israel, with the simplest route reserved for those eligible under the Law of Return. Anyone with at least one Jewish grandparent, or who has converted to Judaism through a recognised process, is eligible to immigrate as an Oleh and receive Israeli citizenship on arrival, with substantial financial and integration support through Nefesh Bโ€™Nefesh and the Jewish Agency. US citizens who do not qualify under the Law of Return can enter visa-free as tourists for up to 90 days and apply for longer stays through work permits (B/1, employer-sponsored), student visas (A/2), or family-reunification routes for spouses and partners of Israeli citizens. Dedicated investment and retirement visas do not exist in the same form as Latin American or Southeast Asian programmes. For the full picture, see our Israel cost of living page.
