How much does a 1 bedroom apartment cost in Hong Kong?

City Asia Updated July 2026

For rent, a one-bedroom in Hong Kong runs roughly USD 1,200 to 2,800 a month depending on area, with the moderate benchmark at $2,222. For purchase, headline numbers are far higher: a 400 to 500 sq ft one-bedroom in a mid-tier district sells for HKD 6 to 9 million (roughly USD 770,000 to 1.15 million), with premium districts (Mid-Levels Central, Pok Fu Lam, Happy Valley) at HKD 10 to 18 million. Outer Kowloon and New Territories developments bring the entry point to HKD 4 to 6 million. Stamp duty on residential property is steep: foreign and non-permanent-resident buyers face an additional 15 percent Buyerโ€™s Stamp Duty plus the standard ad valorem rates, so transaction costs can add 25 to 30 percent of headline price for non-locals.
