What is the cheapest US Virgin Island to live on?

Region Caribbean Updated July 2026

St Croix is the cheapest of the three main USVI islands at $3,600 per person per month at the moderate tier, roughly $375 cheaper than St Thomas ($3,975). St John (the third island) does not have its own dedicated CostLiving page but is the most expensive of the three for housing thanks to limited inventory and a high share of luxury and short-term-rental stock; long-term rentals routinely match or exceed St Thomas levels. The cost gap between St Croix and St Thomas is overwhelmingly driven by housing: a comparable one-bedroom on St Croix typically runs $400 to $800 a month less than on St Thomas. Utilities, groceries, and transport are broadly similar across the territory. For the full breakdown, see our St Croix cost of living page.
